Move beyond the expected.
Taking data center operations to the next level.
Avocent Data Center Planner
Avocent Data Center Planner is ready to help you shift from a reactive to proactive maturity level. Once in place, your organization will gain tremendous advantages and be better able to achieve consolidation, virtualization and energy efficiency goals.
Delivering unmatched visualization, insight and management capabilities
Data Center Planner is a visual infrastructure planning and management solution. It provides data center management with accurate and complete information about where devices and equipment are located, their current capacities and their growth.
- NEW: Real-World Power - The new version of Data Center Planner goes beyond just “faceplate” data from device vendors. Now it gathers actual device power usage snapshots from the PDU to help you make even more informed power chain decisions. Data Center Planner now supports Avocent PDUs and other devices, receiving and presenting actual usage levels.
NEW: End-to-End Connection Visualization - See the interrelationships and possible paths between any two IT assets (servers, switch, routers, etc.) at port connection granularity, for impact analysis that enables better root cause analysis, capital investment decisions and plans for future changes.
NEW: User Access Control - Secures data center planners to viewing only those plans and assets that pertain to their respective domain. Based on floor plans and floor mounted assets, you are able to restrict access to blocked floor space, asset attributes, managing asset attributes, or managing the asset.
Comprehensive Visual Diagramming - Innovative graphics are dynamically updated as equipment is installed, decommissioned or moved within the infrastructure.
Plan with Confidence - Sophisticated modeling and predictive analysis capabilities (i.e., what-if scenarios) are easily created using a drag-and-drop interface. The project planning features help organizations stay organized and see the impact of changes before they occur, allowing them to prioritize activities and reduce the risk associated with changes.
Know Your Inventory - The single repository eliminates the need for personnel to conduct labor-intensive audits and update multiple spreadsheets, freeing up resources and improving management efficiency.
Exchange Critical Data with Other Departments - The standardized API supports the exchange of data to allow businesses to share critical information across departments and enables strategic operations management and planning.
Add even more control: Integrate with DSView™ management software.
Data Center Planner can be configured to work closely with DSView management software, Power Manager plug-in and the hardware portfolio Avocent has to offer.
By leveraging the power of the Avocent portfolio and the associated infrastructure hardware, you have the ability to successfully manage your environment within the data center or around the globe.
No other vendor offers the combination of robust data center planning, change management and integration with the Avocent active infrastructure products.
Features and Benefits
Inventory Management - Know the physical location and attributes of all equipment in a data center and search for assets by their characteristics and their physical location
Configuration Management - Simplify planning and management with a complete model of the environment while improving communication with a single source of truth for Facilities and IT
Capacity Tracking - Know the infrastructure capacities and align resources to meet the data center requirements. Right-size the infrastructure and decrease costs associated with over-provisioning and risks associated with under-provisioning.
Access Control - Define user rights by restricting/allowing access to view plans and/or devices, as well as an ability to view without the option of modification, and of course the ability to both view and modify or manipulate.
Real-World Power Usage - Gather power information from Avocent and Liebert devices, as well as from DSView and Sitescan Web.
Reporting - Improve decision-making with comprehensive analytics and gain detailed insight into the infrastructure status and equipment managed.
Intuitive Visual Interface - Enhance process efficiency and minimize system administration with at-a-glance infrastructure status and predictive modeling.
End-to-End Connection Visualization - Capture and view the most realistic, current-state view of the data center.
Screen Shots & Reports
Data Center Planner screen shots are graphical pictures taken of the application functions. This may include the specific actions, functions and characteristics. It may also include whatever is being displayed by currently running programs.
Models the data center and tracks requirements for each piece of equipment. When it is time to install new assets, Data Center Planner provides recommendations for optimal placement.
- Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP1 (32 bit) Standard Edition
- Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 5.4 (32-bit)
- Red Hat Linux RPM Packages - libXext, libXtst, libXi, xorg-x11-apps, xorg-x11-xauth
- Hardware - Single-core Pentium 4 CPU @ 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM, 8GB free hard disc space
NOTE: Specialized versions of Microsoft Windows Server such as SMB Server and Storage Server are not supported.
NOTE: When the Avocent server is on Windows Server 2008 with Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) enabled, which is the default, port 8443 and 8092 must be open for remote computers to run the application.
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP3 (32-bit support only)
- Microsoft Windows Vista® Business SP2
- Adobe Flash Player 10 (Flash Player 10 is not supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but the non-debug version supports both Windows and Linux.)
- Hardware - Single-core Pentium 4 CPU @ 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, LAN Connection
- Firefox® 3
- Microsoft Internet Explorer® 7
- Microsoft Internet Explorer® 8
For use over wide area network (WAN), a connection of 1.5 MB or more and network latency less than 150 ms is required.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Microsoft Excel® 2003
- Crystal Reports® 2008 or 2011 (optional)
The minimum resolution required for Data Center Planner is 1024x768. At this resolution, it is necessary to view the application in full-screen mode.
NOTE: If Microsoft Office is not installed on the client, you can only save floor plans as All Files(*.*). Floor plans export properly, but the file does not get an extension, which makes Excel software hesitant to open it. The file name should have the .xls extension.
Supported Database Types
- PostgreSQL - This is an object-relational database management system and can be used, modified and distributed by anyone free of charge for any purpose. Version 8.2 is used if the application is upgraded to a newer version. Version 8.4.2 is installed if the application is a new installation.
- Microsoft® SQL Server® 2005 - This is a comprehensive, integrated data management and analysis software that enables organizations to reliably manage information and confidently run complex business applications.
