Avocent’s KVM OVER IP Switching System Chosen for Microsoft® Technology Centre in Tokyo

Shannon, Ireland, August 5, 2003 – Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ/NM: AVCT) today announced the deployment of its KVM OVER IP switching systems in the Microsoft Technology Centre (MTC) Tokyo. With Avocent’s switching systems installed at Tokyo, Chofu and Osaka, Microsoft technical staffs will be able to access the servers running Microsoft’s newest product, Windows Server™ 2003.
Technologies Centres provide state of the art enterprise solutions that every customer needs, along with technical expertise, and an outstanding environment to study the latest technologies, with the ability to test and customise solutions to meet customers needs. In addition, the glass data centre allows Partners such as Avocent to showcase and present their latest technology.
Avocent has installed the DS1800 and DSR2161 KVM OVER IP switches at the MTC Tokyo and Chofu. These switches will connect to servers carrying the latest Microsoft Operating System. With Avocent’s DS management software, administrators can easily administer and troubleshoot the MTC servers or serial devices from a remote location, or locally at the rack.
“The MTC Tokyo will be the first Microsoft centre in Asia using our KVM OVER IP switching technology,” said Gary Johnson, Avocent’s senior vice president of global branded sales. “Given Microsoft’s requirement to have total access to servers in multiple locations, without on-site administration in each facility, it simply made sense to use our KVM OVER IP switching system.”
“As a Microsoft Partner, we are looking forward to showcasing our solutions in yet another state-of-the-art technology centre,” said John Cooper, president and CEO of Avocent. “This centre provides us with an excellent opportunity to improve server access and control for Microsoft, and at the same time, demonstrate the clear advantages of using Avocent’s KVM OVER IP switching solutions.”
“Avocent’s IP-based remote access products allow MTC Tokyo, Chofu and Osaka to properly manage our servers with the ability to access between our sites in Japan,” said Akihiro Oba, director of Enterprise Server Business Group. “Avocent’s KVM OVER IP switches were the obvious choice to meet the business needs of our sales programs.”
